Polikarpov I-15bis

Venäläinen lentokonesuunnittelija Nikolai Polikarpov kehitti I-5-kaksitasohävittäjän pohjalta I-15-koneen, joka lensi ensilentonsa vuonna 1933. Tästä kehitettiin parannettu versio I-15bis (I-152), jossa oli tehokkaampi moottori ja suora yläsiipi niksatun ns. lokinsiiven asemesta. Koneen sarjatuotanto alkoi vuonna 1937 ja päättyi vuonna 1939. Konetta valmistettiin 2 400 kpl. Suomen Ilmavoimat sai talvisodan aikana sotasaaliiksi useita I-15bis-hävittäjiä, joista viisi kunnostettiin lentokuntoisiksi. Koneet palvelivat harjoitus- ja maalinhinauskoneina vuoteen 1945 saakka. IH-4 ja IH-5 lensivät tyypin viimeiset lennot Suomessa 12.3.1945. Kaikki koneet romutettiin.

Joulukuussa 1939 yksi neuvostoliittolainen I-15bis teki pakkolaskun Kiantajärven jäälle. Lentäjä pelastautui Neuvostoliiton puolelle mutta lentokone jäi jäälle ja vajosi ehjänä järven pohjaan noin 18 metrin syvyyteen. Koneen paikka löytyi myöhemmin ja vuonna 1972 paikallisista koostuva ryhmä nosti pahoin hajoneen koneen. Koneen runko kuljetettiin Juntusrannan huoltoaseman pihaan, missä se oli syyskuun 2015 saakka, jolloin Karjalan Ilmailumuseon ryhmä pelasti jäännökset.

Koneen tunnus: -

Kone on varastoituna Karjalan Ilmailumuseoon. Kone on hylky.

A Russian aircraft designer Nikolai Polikarpov designed I-15 biplane fighter by using I-5 fighter as a basis. The prototype flew first time in 1933. An enhanched version I-15bis (I-152) was derived by using a more powerful engine and a straight upper wing instead of so called gull wing of I-15. The series production started in 1937 and ended in 1939. About 2,400 I-15bis' were built. The Finnish Air Force captured several Soviet I-15bis fighters during the Winter War and five of them were repaired to airworthy condition. They were served until 1945 as trainers and target tugs. IH-4 and IH-5 flew the last flight of the aircraft type in Finland on March 12th 1945. All I-15bis aircraft were scrapped.

One Soviet I-15bis made forced landing on the ice of Kiantajärvi at the beginning of December 1939. The pilot escaped to Soviet Union. The aircraft falled to bottom of the lake. The location of the aircraft was found later and a local group lifted up the aircraft in bad condition in 1972. The remains of the aircraft were put on the show in the yard of a service station in Juntusranta. The remains were rescued to the Karelia Aviation Museum in the beginning of September 2015.
