Agusta Bell 206A/B Jet Ranger OH-HRG

Amerikkalainen Bell-tehdas osallistui Yhdysvaltain armeijan järjestämään kevyen helikopterin suunnittelukilpailuun tyypillä 206 vuonna 1960. Helikopterin prototyypin ensilento tapahtui vuonna 1962. Bell ei menestynyt suunnittelukilpailussa mutta suunnitteli samalla tyyppimerkinnällä uuden helikopterin, jonka prototyyppi lensi ensilentonsa 10.1.1966. Jet Ranger -nimen saanut helikopteri sai hyvän kaupallisen menestyksen ja sitä on rakennettu yli 7 700 kpl, joista lähes 900 Agusta-tehtaalla Italiassa. Helikopterin myöhemmät kehitysversiot ovat yhä tuotannossa. Suomen Ilmavoimat osti yhden Jet Ranger -helikopterin vuonna 1968. Kone luovutettiin 9.3.1979 Rajavartiolaitokselle, jossa se palveli tunnuksella OH-HRJ.

OH-HRJ:n lisäksi Rajavartiolaitoksella on ollut käytössä kuusi muuta Jet Ranger -helikopteria, joista viimeinen (OH-HRG) lensi tyypin viimeisen partiolennon 16.12.2012. OH-HRG odottaa museointipäätöstä ja on väliaikaisesti luovutettu opetusvälineeksi. Muista koptereista yksi  tuhoutui, kaksi myytiin siviilikäyttöön Suomeen ja kolme lahjoitettiin Latvian rajavartiolaitokselle.

Bell-company participated with type 206 into a light helicopter design competition managed by U.S. Army in 1960. The prototype flew firsti time in 1962. Bell was unsuccessful in the design competition and redesigned the model 206. The prototype of it flew first time on Januray 10th 1966. The prototype got name Jet Range and proved successful. The total production is over 7,700 Jet Rangers includin 900 helicopters built by Agusta in Italy. The later variants are still in production. The Finnish Air Force acquired one Jet Ranger in 1968. The helicopter handed over to the Border Guard on March 9th 1979. It served by using marking OH-HRJ.

In addition to OH-HRJ, the Border Guard had six other Jet Rangers. The last patrol flight was flown by OH-HRG on December 16th 2012. It is waiting for the preservation decision and it is temporarily handed over to Kouvola Region Vocational College. One of the six other helicopters destroyed, two were sold to civilian market and three were donated to Latvian Border Guard.
