Junkers A 50 Junior

Junkers A 50 on Hermann Pohlmannin suunnittelema ja Junkersin rakentama yksimoottorinen ja kaksipaikkainen alataso. Koneen prototyyppi lensi ensilentonsa 13.2.1929 ja koneesta tuli maailman ensimmäinen kokometallirakenteinen urheilukone. Junkers aikoi rakentaa 5 000 konetta mutta hyvistä ominaisuuksista huolimatta konetyypin valmistuksen päättyessä vuonna 1937 vain 69 konetta oli rakennettu. Suomeen hankittiin vuonna 1931 kaksi Junkers A 50 Junior -konetta, joista toinen on säilynyt.

Wäinö Bremer hankki Junkers A 50ce Junior -koneen ja se saapui Suomeen 23.2.1931 yhtä aikaa toisen Junkers Junior -koneen kanssa. Kone rekisteröitiin 6.3.1931 tunnuksella OH-ABB. Vuonna 1931 Bremer teki koneella Euroopan-kiertueen vieraillen 11 maassa. Seuraavana vuonna hän lensi koneella Kapkaupunkiin ja takaisin. Vuonna 1933 hän kiersi maapallon kuitenkin niin, että Tyyni Valtameri ja Atlantti ylitettiin laivalla. Ilmavoima pakko-otti koneen talvisodan alla. Kone vaurioitui ja palautettiin 26.6.1943. Samalla Bremer osti romutetun Junkers A 50ci Junior (SK-1) -koneen käyttökelpoiset osat. Kone oli Bremerin käytössä 1950-luvun loppuun saakka ja myytiin Tanskaan. Sieltä kone kulkeutui Ruotsiin ja ostettiin takaisin Suomeen vuonna 1967.

Vuonna 1972 kone siirtyi Ilmailumuseoyhdistykselle. Oltuaan kymmeniä vuosia näytteillä Helsinki-Vantaan lentoaseman I-terminaalissa, Ilmailumuseoyhdistyksen Tiistaikerho puhdisti koneen vuosina 2009-2011. Kone palautettiin lentoasemalle, mistä se palasi Suomen Ilmailumuseolle. Se sijoitettiin näytteille kakkoshalliin kevättalvella 2020.

Hermann Pohlmann designed and Junkers built the Junkers A 50 Junior. It is a single-engine two-seat low-wing monoplane. The maiden flight of the prototype was on February 13th 1929 and the aircraft is the first all-metall sport aircraft in the world. Junkers planned to build 5 000 Junkers Juniors but only 69 aircraft were produced in 1937, when the production ended. Two Junkers Juniors imported to Finland in 1931.

Mr Wäinö Bremer acquired Junkers A50ce Junior and it came to Finland on February 23rd 1931 at the same time as the another Junkers Junior. The aircraft registered with marking OH-ABB on March 6th 1931. Same year Mr Bremer made an European tour by visiting in 11 countries. Next year he flew to Cape Town and back. In 1932 he made a journey around the world by OH-ABB. He and OH-ABB crossed the Pasific Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean by ship. The Finnis Air Force requisitioned the aircraft just before the Winter War. The aircraft damaged and it returned to owner on June 26th 1943. At the same time Mr Bremer bought the usable spares of scrapped another Junkers Junior. Mr Bremer used OH-ABB until end og the 1950s. After that the aircraft was sold to Denmark and from Denmark to Sweden. In 1967 the aircraft was acquired back to Finland.

The OH-ABB was handed over to Aviation Museum Society in 1972. The aircraft stood as a memorial in the Terminal 1 at the Helsinki Airport for years. The Tuesday Club of the Aviation Museum Society cleaned it in 2009-2011. After that, the aircraft was on the show at the Helsinki Airport until winter 2018-2019 when it was moved to the Finnish Aviation Museum. It has been in the hall II from early 2020.
