Greetings from Spain23.07.2016
The Malaga Airport was opened on October 20th 1959 at 12:00. The first landed aircraft was a Convair 440 Metropolitan of Kar-Air from Finland. 42 years later another Metropolitan came from California, taxied to the parking place and stayed there for several years. Owners of the aircraft disappeared and the airport fees expired. Some Finns on Costa del Sol decided to paint the aircraft in 2009. The project started on Septembe 1st 2009 and finished a day before the 50th anniversary of the first landing to Malaga Airport. The money for painting was collected by a fund-raising campaign which was sponsored by Aviation Museum Society among others. Convair at night. Photo: Aurinkolaivue Next year the inside of the aircraft was converted to a small museum. Themes of the museum are the Finnish air turism as well as Kar-Air. We got greetings from Joaquín de Carranza, the intendent of the museum. He reported that the Convair has got a new door to prevent dust, cats and burglars. He reported about the new poster, too. Now the poster informs clearly, that the aircraft come from Finland. Very intresting issue is the role of the aircraft as set.
