Douglas DC-2 (DO-1)

Douglasin kokometallirakenteinen matkustajakone DC-1 teki ensilentonsa vuonna 1933 ja siitä suurennettu 14-paikkainen DC-2 pääsi tuotantoon vuonna 1934. Talvisodan aikana Ruotsalainen kreivi Carl Gustav von Rosen osti äitinsä serkun John Henry Sagerin lahjoittamilla rahoilla KLM-lentoyhtiöltä vuonna 1935 valmistuneen Douglas DC-2 -koneen (PH-AKH, De Haan) ja sai kaupan päälle kaksi Koolhoven F.K.52 -konetta. Kone muunnettiin pommikoneeksi ja teki yhden pommituslennon talvisodan aikana. Talvisodan jälkeen kone muunnettiin kuljetuskoneeksi ja se palveli tässä tehtävässä vuoteen 1955. Kone myytiin kahvilaksi, jona se toimi Hämeenlinnan keskustassa, kunnes myytiin Suomen Ilmavoimamuseolle vuonna 1981. Ilmasotakoulun kilta entisöi koneen vuosina 2010-2011. Vuonna 2015 kone sijoitettiin 20 vuoden sopimuksella näytteille Kauppakeskus Tuuloseen tehtyyn näyttelytilaan Tuuloksessa.

The Douglas DC-1 was prototype of a twin-engine passenger transport aircraft which made its maiden flight in 1933. A 14-seat DC-2 was a bigger derivate from the DC-1 and the DC-2 went to the serial production in 1934. During the Winter War a Swedish count Carl Gustav von Rosen bought one Douglas DC-2 (PH-AKH, De Haan) from KLM by using money of his mothers cousin John Henry Sager. Two Koolhoven F.K.52 aircraft belong to the contract as free gifts. The aircraft converted to a bomber. It made only one sortie during the Winter War. After that, the DO-1 converted to a transport aircraft. It served the Finnish Air Force until 1955. The aircraft was sold to civilian use and it served as cafeteria in the Centre of Hämeenlinna until it was sold to the Finnish Air Force Musem in 1981. The Air Force Academy Guild restored the aircraft 2010-2011. In 2015 the aircraft was put on the show in a display room at the Shopping Centre Tuulonen at Tuulos.
