PIK-3c Kajava

Polyteknikkojen Ilmailukerho ry:n pienikokoinen ja rakenteeltaan yksinkertainen yksipaikkainen purjekone perustui Lars Norrménin diplomityöhön. Suunnittelu alkoi 1942. Koneesta pyrittiin tekemään suoritusarvoiltaan hyvä ja kerhotoimintaan sopiva. Kone oli helppo rakentaa. Koneessa oli 25 astetta kääntyvät laskusiivekkeet, joihin yhdistetyt siivekkeet kääntyivät samalla 10 astetta parantaen hidaslento-ominaisuuksia.

PIK-3a:n prototyyppi lensi ensilentonsa vuonna 1950. Konetyyppiä rakennettiin vain neljä kappaletta. PIK-3a:n pohjalta suunniteltiin tyypit PIK-3b ja PIK-3c Kajava. PIK-3c syntyi, kun yhdistettiin PIK-3a:n runko ja PIK-3b:n kokemusten pohjalta suunniteltu siipi. PIK-3c:n prototyyppi lensi ensilentonsa 1958. Kajava-nimen saanut konetyyppi osoittautui hyvin suorituskykyiseksi ja sitä rakennettiin 20.

OH-YKY valmistui vuonna 1959 Helsinkiläiselle FK Cumulukselle. Koneen myöhempiä käyttäjiä olivat Helsingin IK, Tampereen IY ja Varkauden LK. Kone poistettiin rekisteristä vuonna 1987.

The PIK-3a sailplane was based on the Master´s thesis of Lauri Norrmén. The plane was small and structurally simple single seat sailplane. The objectives of the design work were good performance and suitability to the club activities due to easy-of-build. The flaps opened 25 degrees and interlinked ailerons 10 degrees. This feature enhanced flying characteristics at low speed.

The prototype of PIK-3a flew first time in 1950. Only for examples of this type were built. The PIK-3b and the PIK-3c Kajava were designed by using the PIK-3a as a basis. PIK-3c has the fuselage of PIK-3a and a new wing which was designed by using the experiences of PIK-3b. The prototype of PIK-3c flew first time in 1958. The aircraft type had good performance. The production number was 20.

The OH-YKY was delivered to FK Cumulus in 1959. Later users were Helsingin IK, Tampereen IY and Varkauden LK. The aircraft was unregistered in 1987.
