Hawker Hurricane I

Hawkerin yksityisenä suunnitteluprojektina alkaneen Hawker High Speed Interceptor Monoplane lensi ensilentonsa 6.11.1935 ja sai kesäkuussa nimen Hurricane. Kuninkaalliset Ilmavoimat tilasi ensimmäisen 600 koneen erän kesäkuussa 1936. Suomen Ilmavoimat sai ostaa talvisodan aikana 12 Hawker Hurricane I:tä, joista 10 saapui Suomeen. Koneet eivät ehtineet talvisodan sotatoimiin. Jatkosodassa varaosapula laski konevahvuuden viiteen koneeseen. Sotasaaliiksi saaduista Hawker Hurricane II -koneista kunnostettiin lentokuntoiseksi yksi.

HC-452 tuli Suomeen 7.3.1940. Kone palveli lentolaivueissa 10, 22, 26, 28, 30 ja 32. Sillä saavutettiin Lentolaivue 32:ssa 2,5 ilmavoittoa. Kone luovutettiin varikolle 26.7.1943 ja poistettiin 9.8.1944.

Kone on yksi vanhimmista säilyneistä Hawker Hurricane I -koneista maailmassa.

Hawker High Speed Interceptor Monoplane was originally a private design project of Hawker. The aircraft flew first time on November 6th 1935 and in June 1936 it was named Hurricane. The Royal Air Force ordered 600 Hurricanes in June 1936. During the Winter War Britain sold Finland 12 Hawker Hurricane Is. 10 of them arrived to Finland, unfortunately too late. The lack of spare parts the number of operative Hurricanes sank to five during the Continuation War. During the Continuation War Finland got three Soviet Hurricane IIs as war booty and one of them was repaired to flying condition.

The HC-453 arrived to Finland on March 7th, 1940. It served in 10, 22, 26, 28, 30 and 32 Squadrons. It has 2,5 aerial kills in the 32nd Squadron. It was handed over to the depot on July 26th, 1943 and written off on August 9th, 1944.

The aircraft is one of the oldest Hawker Hurricane Is in the world.
