Valmet Vihuri II (VH-18)

Valmet kehitti kaksipaikkaisen ja kokomentallisen Vihurin 1950-luvun alussa korvaamaan VL Pyry -koneet. Kaikkiaan konetta valmistettiin 51 kappaletta vuosina 1951-1957. Kone oli Ilmavoimien pääasiallinen jatkokoulutuskone 1950-luvulla. Konetyyppi palveli Ilmavoimien kaikissa yksiköissä. Vihureille tapahtui useita onnettomuuksia, joista liikkeelle lähtenyt lehdistökampanja johti konetyypistä luopumiseen vuonna 1959. Suurin osa koneista romutettiin vuonna 1960. Vain mekaanikkojen opetuskoneena ollut VH-18 säilyi museoitavaksi.

Kone on ainoa säilynyt konetyyppinsä edustaja maailmassa.

Valmet Oy developed two-seat and all-metal Vihuri at the beginning of the 1950s to substitute VL Pyry advanced trainers. A total of 51 Vihuris were produced 1951-1957. It was the main advanced trainer and the most flown type during the 1950s. It was involved in a number of accidents. That led to a press campaign which quickened its withdrawal from service in 1959. Most of the Vihuris were scrapped in 1960. Only VH-18 was kept as an instructional aircraft for mechanics and for future museum.

The aircraft is the sole survivor of the type in the world.
