MiG-17 (Lim-5) (1C-1709)

MiG-17 oli ensimmäinen neuvostoliittolainen jälkipolttimella varustettu suihkuhävittäjä. Sen prototyyppi lensi 14.1.1950 ja konetyyppi otettiin palveluskäyttöön vuonna 1952. Konetyyppiä valmistettiin Neuvostoliitossa, Puolassa ja Kiinassa 9 482 kpl ja se palveli 40 maan ilmavoimia. Puolassa konetta valmistettiin tunnuksella Lim-5. Konetyypin viimeinen lento Puolassa tapahtui vuonna 1992.

Kormulainen romuliikkeen omistaja toi Puolasta kaksi Lim-5-konetta vuonna 1991. Niistä toinen (1C-1709) myytiin Karstulaan, missä kone oli muistomerkkinä Suomen Ilmavoimien väreihin maalattuna. Vuonna 2004 kone lahjoitettiin Suomen Ilmavoimamuseolle. Koska konetyyppi ei ole koskaan palvellut Suomen Ilmavoimia, museo sopi lahjoittajan kanssa, että koneesta ei tule museoesinettä, vaan museo saa käyttää konetta haluamallaan tavalla. Koneen maalauksesta järjestettiin suunnittelukilpailu Jyväskylän maalaiskunnan kouluissa ja kone maalattiin kirkkaan vihreäksi ja koristeltiin kukkasin voittaneen ehdotuksen mukaan.

The MiG-17 was the first Soviet-built fighter equipped with afterburner. The prototype flew on January 14th 1950 and the type entered service in 1952. The MiG-17 was produced in Soviet Union, Poland and China and the total production including all versions was 9,482 aircraft. The MiG-17 was produced in Poland as the Lim-5. The last flight of the type in Poland was in 1992.

A scrap dealer from Kormu bought two Lim-5s from Poland in 1991. The 1C-1709 was sold Karstula where it was used as memorial and painted as a fighter of the Finnish Air Force. The aircraft was donated to the Finnish Air Force Museum in 2004. The museum and the donator agreed that since the MiG-17 has never served in the Finnish Air Force, the aircraft would not be any museum piece. The museum was allowed to use the aircraft as it likes. The museum arranged a design competition among schools in Jyväskylä rural community and the aircraft was painted to clear green and decorated by flowers according to the winning proposal.
