VL Sääski II (SÄ-122)

VL Sääski II on kaksipaikkainen ja kaksitasoinen koulukone. Osakeyhtiö Sääski tarjosi Sääski II -konetta myös Puolustusministeriölle. Valtion Lentokonetehtaan huonon työtilanteen takia puolustusministeri Juho Niukkanen hyväksyi 10 Sääski-koneen tilaamisen 18.10.1929. Koneet luovutettiin Ilmavoimille maalis-kesäkuussa 1930. Myöhemmin Ilmavoimille toimitettiin vielä kahdessa erässä 22 konetta lisää. SÄ-122 kuuluu ensimmäiseen valmistuserään ja se palveli Ilmavoimia vuosina 1930-1936. Sääsket poistettiin käytöstä syyskuuhun 1942 mennessä.

Kone on näytteillä Suomen Ilmailumuseossa. Kone on entisöity. Koneen rungon oikea kylki on jätetty avoimeksi rakenteen esittelemiseksi.

VL Sääski II is a twin-seat biplane for training purposes. Osakeyhtiö Sääski offered Sääski II to the Defence Ministry. Due to the delay in Blackburn Ripon building on licence, the Minister of Defence ordered 10 Sääski IIs from the State Aircraft Factory in October 18th, 1929. The aircraft were delivered between March and June 1930. Later the Finnish Air Force ordered 22 Sääksi IIs more. SÄ-122 belongs to the first delivery slot and it served from 1930 to 1936. All VL Sääski IIs were grounded before September 1942.
