VL Tuisku II (TU-178)

Valtion Lentokonetehtaan nuorten insinöörien harrastusprojektina käynnistunut monikäyttöisen harjoituskoneen suunnittelutyö johti prototyypin tilaamiseen 13.5.1933. Prototyyppi lensi ensilentonsa 10.1.1934 mutta tuhoutui syöksykokeessa jo 29.1.1934 flutterin seurauksena. Uusi prototyyppi valmistui jo vuoden 1935 alussa. Kone osoittautui onnistuneeksi ja Valtion Lentokonetehdas rakensi konetta kahdessa sarjassa 28 kappaletta vuosina 1936-1937. Konetta käytettiin monipuolisena harjoituskoneena 31.1.1950 saakka.

Kone on ainoa säilynyt tyyppinsä edustaja maailmassa.

The young engineers of the State Aircraft Factory started the design work of VL Tuisku as a hobby. The Defence Ministry ordered the prototype May 13th, 1933. The prototype took air first time January 10th, 1934 but destroyed January 29th same year in dive test due to aeroelastic flutter. A new prototype delivered at the beginning 1935. The VL Tuisku II was proven successful and the State Aircraft Factory build 28 VL Tuisku IIs in two slots. The aircraft were delivered 1936-1937. The aircraft was used as a versatile trainer until January 31st, 1950.

The aircraft is the sole survivor of the type in the World.
