VL Viima I (VI-1)

Valtion Lentokonetehdas aloitti uuden koulukoneen suunnittelun vuonna 1934. Tyypillä oli tarkoitus korvata Letov S.218 A Smolik -koneet. Prototyyppi lensi ensilentonsa 11.1.1936. Koneessa oli puutteita, joiden seurauksena kone uudelleen suunniteltiin suurelta osin. Uusi prototyyppi VL Viima II lensi ensilentonsa 12.10.1937. Valtion Lentokonetehdas rakensi 22 koneen sarjan vuonna 1939. VL Viima (VI-1) jäi Suomen Ilmavoimien käyttöön vuoteen 1953 saakka.

Kone on nähtävänä Tampereella Valmetinkadun ja Lentovarikonkadun risteyksessä sijaitsevassa vitriinissä. Kone on entisöity.

The State Aircraft Factory started to design a new trainer in 1934 to substitute Letov S.218 A Smolik. The prototype of VL Viima I took air first time January 11th, 1936. The aircraft had severan shortages and therefore a new version was developed. The maiden flight of VL Viima II was October 12th, 1937. The State Aircraft Factory built 22 VL Viima IIs and they were delivered in 1939. VL Viima I (VI-1) stay in use of the Finnish Air Force until 1953.

The aircraft is a prototype.
