VL Pyry (PY-1)

VL Pyry on kaksipaikkainen harjoitushävittäjä, joka suunniteltiin ja valmistettiin Valtion Lentokonetehtaalla Tampereella. Koneen prototyypin ensilento tapahtui 29.3.1939. Konetyyppiä rakennettiin 40 kpl vuosina 1939-1941. Koneet palvelivat Suomen Ilmavoimissa jatkokoulutuskoneina ja yhteyskoneina vuosina 1939-1962.

29.3.1939 koneen ensilento. 31.1.1941 siipi rikkoutui sivutuulilaskussa. 4.9.1942 osui PY-7:ään ilmassa mutta pääsi laskuun normaalisti. 15.12.1943 muunnettiin sarjakoneiden kaltaiseksi. 24.1.1944 varustettiin trapetsisiivellä. 29.5.1960 meni nokilleen laskussa. PY-1 ja PY-27 lensivät konetyypin viimeiset lennot 6.9.1962. 18.9.1962 poistettiin.

VL Pyry is a two-seat fighter trainer designed and built by the State Aircraft Factory at Tampere. The first flight of the prototype took place on March 29th 1939. 40 Pyrys were built 1939-1941. They were used as advanced trainers and as liaision aircraft 1939-1962. The PY-1 and PY-27 made the types last flights on September 6th 1962.

PY-1 flew first time on March 29th 1939. The wing was broken during landing on January 31st 1941. Crashed with PY-7 in air but landed normally on September 4th 1942. Converted to the VL Pyry II standard on December 15th 1943. Equipped with trapeze wing on January 24th 1944. Damaged during landing on May 29th 1960. PY-1 and PY-27 flew the last flights of the aircraft type on September 6th 1962. PY-1 was written off on September 18th 1962.
