de Havilland Canada DHC-2 Beaver suunniteltiin alunperin Kanadan erämaa-alueiden ilmakuljetuksiin ja koneella on hyvin lyhyt nousu- ja laskumatka. Kone on metallirakenteinen ja siihen mahtuu ohjaajan lisäksi viisi matkustajaa. Koneen ensilento tapahtui 16.8.1947. Konetta valmistettiin vuoteen 1967 mennessä 1 657 kpl, joista suurin osa Yhdysvaltain asevoimille. Suomen Ilmavoimilla kolme Beaveria vuosina 1958-1973. Nämä kaikki tuhoutuivat onnettomuuksissa. Rajavartiolaitos käytti kolmea Beaveria vuosina 1951-1988 ja Imatran Voima Oy yhtä vuosina 1957-1974. OH-MVL hankittiin Rajavartiolaitokselle vuonna 1955. Sitä käytettiin pääosin Lapissa.

de Havilland Canada DHC-2 Beaver was designed originally as a "bush-plane" for use in the Canada wilderness. It is an all-metal construction with seats for a pilot and five passengers. The maiden flight was on August 16th 1947. It was in production until 1967, when 1657 Beavers has been built of which more than half for the US armed forces. The Finnish Air Force used three Beavers 1958-1973. All three were destroyed in accidents. The Border Guard used three Beavers 1951-1988 and the power company Imatran Voima Oy one 1957-1974. The OH-MVL purchased to Border Guard in 1955. It was used mainly in Lapland.
