VL Myrsky II (MY-9)

VL Myrsky on Valtion Lentokonetehtaan Suomen Ilmavoimille suunnittelema ja rakentama hävittäjälentokone. Koneen suunnittelu käynnistyi vuonna 1939. Prototyyppi lensi ensilentonsa 23.12.1941 ja koesarjan koneet (3 kpl VL Myrsky I) kesällä 1943. 47 suursarjan konetta (VL Myrsky II) valmistui joulukuusta 1943 lähtien. MY-9 luovutettiin Tiedustelulentolaivue 12:lle 5.8.1944. Sen jälkeen kone palveli Hävittäjälentolaivue 11:ta kunnes vaurioitui laskeutumisessa 15.2.1945. Koneen runko löytyi 1970-luvulla ja päätyi 1980-luvun alussa Suomen Ilmavoimamuseoon. Tällä hetkellä runkoa käytetään VL Myrsky II -projektissa esittely- ja varaosarunkona.

The State Aircraft Factory designed and built VL Myrsky fighter aircraft for the Finnish Air Force. The design work was started in 1939. The prototype flew its maiden flight on December 23th 1941 and three preproduction aircraft (VL Myrsky I) in summer 1943. First of 47 series production aircraft (VL Myrsky II) delivered in December 1943. The MY-5 is the first aircraft ot series production and it was delivered in December 1943. MY-9 handed over to the Reconnaissance Squadron 12 on August 5th 1944. After that the aircraft served the Fighter Sqadrons 11 until damaged in a landing on February 15th 1945. The steel-tube fuselage was found in the 1970s and moved to the Finnis Air Force Musem at the beginning of the 1980s. The fuselage is used as display purposes and as a source of spare parts in the VL Myrsky II restoration project.
