de Havilland D.H.115 Vampire Mk.55 (VT-6)

de Havilland D.H.115 Vampire Trainer on kehitetty Vampiren kaksipaikkaisen yöhävittäjäversion (D.H.113) pohjalta mm. poistamalla tutka ja lisäämällä kaksoisohjaimet. D.H.113 ja D.H.115 olivat molemmat de Havillandin yksityisiä hankkeita. Suomen Ilmavoimat hankkivat vuonna 1955 yhdeksän kaksipaikkaista de Havilland D.H.115 Vampire Trainer Mk.55 -konetta. Tyypin viimeinen lento tehtiin VT-8:lla 15.7.1965.

Koneen tunnus: VT-6

Kone on näytteillä Päijät-Hämeen Ilmailumuseossa. Kone käsittää entisöimättömän eturungon.

The de Havilland D.H.115 Vampire Trainer was derived from Vampires two-seat night fighter version D.H.113 by removing radar and adding dual controls. D.H.113 and D.H.115 were both private venture projects of the de Havilland. The Finnish Air Force purchased nine two-seat de Havilland D.H.115 Vampire Trainer Mk.55 jet trainers in 1955. The aircraft type was the first jet trainer in Finland as well as the first aircraft type equipped with ejection seats. The aircraft type proved reliable and a joy to fly. Due to their intensive use and the fast pace of technical development, their career in Finland was short. The last flight of the type in the Finnish Air Force was flown with the VT-8 on July 15th 1965.

Aircraft code: VT-6

The aircraft is on the show of the Päijänne-Tavastia Aviation Museum. The aircraft consist of an unrestored fuselage.
