Republic RC-3 Seabee

Yhdysvaltalainen Republic Aircraft Corporation alkoi jo sodan aikana etsiä tuotteita sodan jälkeistä aikaa varten. Konetta rakennettiin 1 076 kpl.

Koneen tunnus: OH-EGA

Kone on nähtävillä Suomen Metsämuseo Lustossa Punkaharjulla. Kone on osittain entisöity.

The Republic Aircraft Corporation started to find products for post-war production. It bought rights to produce Amphibian Air Car designed by Percival H. Spencer in 1943. The Republic converted the wooden aircraft to all-metal. Republic RC-1 Thunderbolt Amphibian flew first time during the WWII but it proved too complex and expensive to build. Therefore the aircraft was redesigned and the manufacturing of the four-seat RC-3 Seabee stared in the middle of 1946. The production ended in 1948 after delivery of 1,076 Seabees.

In all three Seabees were bought to Finland but one of them crashed during the ferry flight in Sweden.

Enso-Gutzeit Oy bought one Seagee and it registered to OH-EGA on November 14th 1947. The company used OH-EGA for passenger and timber floating control flights. The aircraft crashed on September 30th 1958 due to the lower position of the landing gear. The pilot was injuired and the passenger died. The privately owned wreck was stored at Vesivehmaa until May 26th 2011 when it was transferred to the Finnish Forest Museum Lusto in Punkaharju.

Aircraft code: OH-EGA

The aircraft is on the show of the Finnish Forest Museum Lusto in Punkaharju. The aircraft is partially restored.
