VL Myrsky II (MY-14)

VL Myrsky on Valtion Lentokonetehtaan Suomen Ilmavoimille suunnittelema ja rakentama hävittäjälentokone. Koneen suunnittelu käynnistyi vuonna 1939. Prototyyppi lensi ensilentonsa 23.12.1941 ja koesarjan koneet (3 kpl VL Myrsky I) kesällä 1943. 47 suursarjan konetta (VL Myrsky II) valmistui joulukuusta 1943 lähtien. Tiedustelulentolaivue 12 itti VL Myrsky II:n käyttöön elokuussa 1944. Sen lisäksi Tiedustelulentolaivue 16 ehti ottaa koneen käyttöön ennen Jatkosodan päättymistä. VL Myrsky II:t osallistuivat myös Lapin sotaan ja rauhanajan palvelukseen. Viimeinen lento konetyypillä tehtiin 10.2.1948. Koneet romutettiin, viimeinen vasta vuonna 1965. MY-14 luovutettiin Tiedustelulentolaivue 12:lle 2.8.1944. Myöhemmin kone palveli Hävittäjälentolaivue 11:ta kunnes vaurioitui rullauksessa 3.2.1947 toisen koneen ajettua päälle. Koneen runko löydettiin 1970-luvulla ja toimitettiin 1980-luvulla Suomen Ilmavoimamuseoon. Vuonna 2013 Ilmailumuseoyhdistys, Suomen Ilmavoimamuseo ja Suomen Ilmailumuseo aloittivat VL Myrsky II -entisöintihankkeen. Vuonna 2014 koneen identiteetiksi valittiin MY-14 paraskuntoisen rungon perusteella. MY-14 valmistuu suunnitelmien mukaan vuonna 2019.

The State Aircraft Factory designed and built VL Myrsky fighter aircraft for the Finnish Air Force. The design work was started in 1939. The prototype flew its maiden flight on December 23th 1941 and three preproduction aircraft (VL Myrsky I) in summer 1943. First of 47 series production aircraft (VL Myrsky II) delivered in December 1943. The Reconnaissance Squadron 12 took VL Myrsky IIs in use in August 1944. The Reconnaissance Squadron 16 got VL Myrsky IIs before end of the Continuation War. VL Myrsky IIs participated in the Lapland War and the service after WWII. The last flight of the type was flown on February 10th 1948. All VL Myrskys were scrapped, the last as late as 1965. The MY-14 handed over to the Reconnnaissance Squadron 12. After that the MY-14 server the Fighter Squadron 11 until damaged in rolling on February 3rd 1947. The steel-tube fuselage was found late 1970s and moved to the Finnish Aviation Museum at the beginning of the 1980s. In 2013 the Aviation Museum Society, the Finnish Air Force Musem and the Finnish Aviation Museum started a project in order to restore a VL Myrsky II. The fuselage in the best condition is from MY-14 and therefore the aircraft will be the MY-14. The MY-14 will be ready for display in 2019.
