PIK-12

PIK-12 on toistaiseksi ainoa Suomessa suunniteltu ja rakennettu kaksipaikkainen purjekone. Sen suunnitteli Ilkka Lounamaa. Koneesta oli tarkoitus tehdä Suomen yleisin kaksipaikkainen purjekone, mutta kone myöhästyi kaksipaikkaiskoulutuksen lyödessä läpi 1950-luvun puolessa välissä ja ilmailukerhot ehtivät hankkia koneensa ulkomailta. Prototyyppi lensi ensilentonsa 27.5.1956. Kone sai tyyppihyväksynnän vuonna 1959 ja konetta rakennettiin prototyypin lisäksi vain kolme vuosina 1957-1965.

Koneella oli monta lempinimeä. Yksi niistä oli "Gabriel", joka tuli siiven muodosta, joka toi mieleen enkelin (arkkienkeli Gabriel). Myös lempinimeä "kaksitoistapaikkainen" ja sen pitempää muotoa "maailman ainoa seisaaltaan lennettävä kaksipaikkainen postipurjelentokone" käytettiin.

OH-KYC rakennettiin vuonna 1965. Polyteknikkojen Ilmailukerho (PIK) lensi koneella 1970-luvulle saakka, viimeisenä omistajana mainitaan hämeenlinnalainen H.O. Tandefelt. Kone poistui lentokäytöstä vuonna 1980.

The PIK-12 is so far the only two-seat sailplane designed and built in Finland. The designer is Ilkka Lounamaa. PIK-12 was intended to be the most common two-seat sailplane in Finland but the project delayed. The glider training with two-seaters was a new trend at the middle of the 1950s and the flyig clubs catch the two-seaters from abroad before PIK-12 was available. The prototype of PIK-12 flew first time in May 27th 1956. The aircraft got the type approval in 1959 and only three production examples were delivered in 1957-1965.

The aircraft had several nicknames. One was "Gabriel" due to the wing shape which resembled the wings of an angel (Archangel Gabriel). Another was "Twelve-seater" or longer "The world's only twelve-seater mail plane to be flown in standing position".

OH-KYC was delivered in 1965. The Polyteknikkojen Ilmailukerho (PIK) was used the aircraft till the 1970s. The last owner was Mr. H.O. Tandefelt from Hämeenlinna. The aircraft was withdrawn from a register in 1980.
